I recently downloaded the latest StuffIt Utilities Guide into a file I called stuffitutilguide. When I run xbin on it, I get the message: Utilities_1.5_UserUs_Guide.data: Not owner I've gotten similar messages before. Can someone please tell me what is causing this, and how do I fix it? Annoying, isn't it? The version of xbin you are using refuses to recognize oddball characters... for example, the o-with-a-slash-through-it which the author of Moire used instead of an 'o', or the 'TM' symbol in the name of Retouch. There are two solutions: You can ask a systems person to edit your version of xbin to understand such characters...but I doubt you'll get an enthusiastic response. Or you can obtain a copy of BinHex, download the BinHexed program using binary-mode Kermit (rather than MacBinary mode, and, presumably, macput), and un-BinHex the User's Guide on your Mac. (That's what I did.) Good luck, Ellen Keyne Seebacher University of Chicago Computing Orgzns. see1@sphinx.uchicago.edu staff.ellen@chip.uchicago.edu
