(If only I had applecare....) Last night I was happily formatting a disk when suddenly the monitor on my Mac II started snapping, about every 15 seconds or so. It was a loud electric-spark type of noise, which disrupted the screen, and eventually made the thing go completely blank. If I reboot the Mac II, the screen will return for a few pops, then go black again. I turned on the monitor without a connection to the video card, but the symptoms persist. Is this a known problem with the early versions of the Apple High-Resolution RGB monitor, or has it just freaked out? All I can figure is the return of the Mac's old nemesis, the flyback transformer. Sounds (and acts) like it is overcharging and sparking to some other part. AARRRRGH! Apple, why don't you have a 1-year warranty?? This monitor has had very light use since I got it in February. It really shouldn't have died so soon. Any help out there on this problem? Please?? System: Mac II, 1 800k floppy, 2MB RAM, Apple monitor card with 8-bit upgrade (that's right, no hard disk :-( uhm, anybody got a good ramdisk?) Oh yeah, Apple High-resolution RGB monitor Serial Number 5042269 (Made in November 1987) Thanks in advance, Stu Pet Peeve of the day: "It's a Mac II, not a Mac ][!" -- Stuart Ericson AT&T Bell Laboratories USEnet: att!ihlpe!stuart IH 2H210 ARPA: stuart@ihlpe.att.com 2000 N.
