> What are the possible ways of putting simms (256K or 1Meg simms) > in the Mac II memory slots ? To quote Tech Note #176: " The configurations you can have are: 1MB, using four 256k SIMMs in bank A 2MB, using eight 256k SIMMs in banks A&B 4MB, using four 1Mb SIMMs in bank A 5MB, using four 1Mb SIMMs in bank A and four 256K SIMMs in bank B 8MB, using eight 1Mb SIMMs in banks A&B Again, it is important to make sure the right size SIMMs are in the right Bank, when you are using a combination of SIMMs, the large SIMMs must be in Bank A. When you are using only four SIMMs, they must be in Bank A as well." Bob Hablutzel BOB@NUACC.ACNS.NWU.EDU

I recently made a deal which I now feel was unfair to me: I traded my bank of 256K SIMM's (1 MB total) + $448 for 2 1-MB SIMM's. The normal price for this guy's 2-MB upgrades were $848, and he "credited" me $400 for my 4 256K's. Was I dumb in doing this, since I could have gotten 2 1-MB DIP SIMM's (as opposed to the other surface-mount ones) for $650. Also, what is the difference between DIP and surface-mount SIMM's ? Any difference in performance/compatibility? _____________________________________________________________________ Please reply via e-mail; I just don't have enough time to go thru the entire newsgroup.
