[comp.sys.mac] Repost of a question ...

tjj3901@fedeva.UUCP (Dataman) (09/23/88)

I didn't get any responses last time, so my question probably didn't get out.

I have a 4 year old Mac that began life as a 128K. Then I added a MacDoctor
512K upgrade. Then I added the Apple 128K ROM upgrade (includes 800K internal
disk drive). Recently I added a Dove MacSnap 548S upgrade, giving me a total
of 2MB of RAM and a SCSI port.

*** Do I have the moral and functional equivalent of a MacPlus?? ***

I've heard that I have the wrong type of clock chip. I've also noticed that
the Sound CDEV doesn't work.

Thanks.

In a word: not really.

Functional difference #1:
The clock chip you have has a few bytes less parameter RAM (PRAM) than
does a factory Mac+. This is why the Sound CDEV does not work correctly.
It uses some (>0) of those extra bytes to remember what sound was selected.
I believe there is a software patch to work around this.

Functional difference #2:
Besides the keyboard I know of no other functional differences.

Moral difference #1:
I do not believe my Mac+ has signatures of the Mac design team on the
inside of the case.

Moral difference #2:
    My Mac+ has only 1Meg RAM :-(
Does this mean it is immoral for you to have twice the RAM I have?
Let's see you sleep tonight with that on your mind.

No problem.
