I need some information regarding the various generations of the HD20 internal SCSI drive for the SE. If anyone out there who works for Apple can help me, I'd really appreciate it. I bought my SE about a year ago. A few months ago the hard drive began to make intermittent vibrating noises, identified by my dealer as "ground spring noise". Since I use my SE in a music studio the extra noise was a real problem, so I decided to get Applecare and have the drive replaced. Bad Move! The replacement drive, although in fine condition, had a much noisier aural footprint all the time. On disk accesses, it kind of "buzzes" (whearas the old one sort of "clicked"). But the real problem is when it's not accessing the disk; it makes a penetrating pitched sound that the old one didn't make. All of this would go completely unnoticed in the average office, but in a studio it makes a big difference. My dealer would be willing swap my current drive for a quieter one, if he only knew what to look for. If anyone out there knows about the different HD20 models that Apple uses, and if the quieter type is still available, please E-mail me. Thanks in advance. Michael Land ...!harvard!spdcc!lexicon!ml
