Does anyone know of a Mac utility program which will aid in dumping files from a hard disk onto floppies? What I am after is something usable in a situation such as this: Suppose you have a file on your HD called "graphics", which contains about 1.8 Meg of files, with some other sub-folders with files. Now, I should be able to get this onto 3, 800K floppies, assuming that no single file or folder exceeds 800K, or that the combined total of the largest files don't exceed 800K. What would be nice is a program that would either move or duplicate a given folder into N number of other folders at or below a certain size (probably 792K, or so). This is a variation of the old partitioned memory problem -- (ie, "best fit" versus "first fit") encountered in Operating Systems design. Now, I could use Stuffit 1.5, and ask that the file be partitioned into the proper sizes, but I am using FILEIT1.2 (a great, great, FREE disk cataloger program, by the way), and so would prefer to keep the original file names intact, and pay the extra disk space penalty for doing so. Programs like DISKFIT must do this, but I've never seen a stand alone program to do it. Please post a message here or E-Mail back to me if you know of such a program. I've thought of writing one myself, but would prefer not to get into the catacombs of HFS if it is not necessary.
