The Mac IIx, from press reports, has a 1.6 MB floppy (the Floppy Drive, High Density -- FDHD) as the internal drive. The FDHD, beside from having twice the capacity of Apple's current 800K disk drives, can read and write Apple ProDOS and MS-DOS (3.5") formatted diskettes. A FDHD upgrade kit for Mac II's will be available in the fourth quarter of this year for $599 (according to Computer Reseller News, I think -- someone from Apple can correct me if any details are inaccurate). Question: Will Apple release an external floppy FDHD drive? (I have an SE, and the ability to read/write MS-DOS 3.5" formatted disks would be handy.) What is the likely cost of such a device (under $1 million, I hope :-)? -- Eric F.
