"A career's like having a dog you can kick. Sometimes it jumps up on you when you're all dressed up and you have to scold it -- 'Get down, get down boy.' And other times it runs away and you can't find it or it ends up in the pound and you have to spend all this money to get it out. So that's my dog, my career's my dog." -- Tom Waits (Reprinted without permission from the Nov. 1983 issue of Record Magazine) ... uw-june!eli Ps. Waits' new album, "Swordfishtrombone," is a real winner. Several Waits' styled R&B tracks, as well as some fine Tom Waitsian ravings. Lyrically it's a cross between latter day Beat poetry (ala Patti Smith) and seemingly insane ramblings. There's even a track which sounds as if Waits pulled a Salvation Army Band in off of the street.
