Anyone worked with the Shiva Netserial? I'm thinking of hooking up my existing modem to one to we don't have to fight over who gets the machine with the modem. I've tried this once with ComServe by Infosphere, and threw the stuff off my hard disks because it was (1) amazingly buggy (2) not Multifinder compatible (3) slowed a 2400 baud modem down to about 1200 baud effective throughput, and (4) their tech support people were somewhere between incompetent and abusive (bugs? what bugs?). Foo. So, before I invest in a NetModem, I thought I'd ask around and see what people thought about it. Does it work well with a modem attached? Can you attach to the modem, call out and then wait until someone calls you back without losing the connection? Does it slow the throughput down significantly? Send e-mail to me. I'll summarize if there's interest. Chuq Von Rospach chuq@sun.COM Delphi: CHUQ Editor/Publisher, OtherRealms

I have never used the NetSerial, but I have used both NetModems, which use similar technology. They have always worked flawlessly. The software was very impressive, and compatible with a wide range of hardware and other software. However, you should consider using Liason. It bears no resemblance whatsoever to ComServe, and so far it seems to be quite solid. ---- Alexis Rosen {allegra,philabs,cmcl2}!phri\ Writing from {harpo,cmcl2}!cucard!dasys1!alexis The Big Electric Cat {portal,well,sun}!hoptoad/ Public UNIX Best path: uunet!dasys1!alexis
