I'm trying to interface an old printer which doesn't use XON/XOFF. It has a hardware handshake on pin 19, indicating "buffer getting too full", and drops DTR if the buffer overflows. If the computer responds by dropping DTR, it then does a page eject and goes off-line. Is there any way I can get UNIX to use a CTS/RTS handshake, or to interpret drop-DTR as "wait a sec" instead of "good-bye" ? This would let me use pin 19 and some null-modem jumpers to get the printer to work. Otherwise I have to run the printer at a 2/3 of its maximum speed and hope it doesn't overflow. I'm running System V (release 2) on a VAX 11/780 with DZ-11s, but advice based on other hardware or UNIX-versions will be gratefully accepted as well.
