I'm looking for information from anyone who has used the DEC PrintServe 40 laser printer. I am thinking about recommending one of them to the place I work but need to know a few things that aren't in the DEC sales literature. Specifically...... Will the printer properly handle postscript as output by Mac programs, Ventura publisher on a PC or Autocad? How does DEC's 40 page a minute print speed hold up in the real world? Can the printer maintain that rate when printing output from RUNOFF or VAXdocument? What kind of things seem to slow it down (if anyone has numbers on expected throughput for various types of documents it would help) How much do these things cost to operate? Any idea what the rough cost per page is when you include consumables (other than paper). How many pages can the output stacker(s) handle? Have you had any annoying problems with keeping the thing running or getting service? Is the quality consistantly good? If we get one of these things we plan to hook it up to our ethernet and use it for a LOT of different purposes. If you use one of these printers for any of the purposes listed below I would particularly appreciate hearing your comments/experiences. o Printing up to 10 copies of large (100-400 page) manuals o Printing postscript output from Word Perfect o Printing WPS files o Printing B-size drawings from Autocad (in postscript) o Printing long program listings o Printing postscript from Mac programs o Screen-printing from VAXstations o Printing VENTURA publisher output If you have any information please send me USENET mail or call me on the phone Please DO NOT post replys to usenet news as I don't get in to read it often enough to avoid missing things.
