[comp.sys.mac] old macs with 400k drives and minimal memory

ferguson@bgsuvax.UUCP (Doug Ferguson) (10/07/88)

I need help. Please MAIL me your reply.

My wife's MAC at work (which someone found in storage recently) seems to
work, but I'm having trouble helping her.

A minor problem is that I am having trouble backing up her only copy of
MacWrite (following the manual exactly).

Most serious is that I am unable to share some of my apllications with her
that I have on 800K disks. I've tried formatting 400K disks on her
drive, but when I go to my Mac Plus the disks act strange (showing more
memory capacity) and even stranger when I try to use them on her machine.
(As in SYSTEM BOMB). Someone suggested that there is some special procedure
for transferring stuff from "real" Macs to the original ones.

Please help.

I'll try. Sound's to me like one or both of the diskette drives is out
of alignment. My guess would be the Mac that was found in storage. It is
(I believe) possible for a drive out of alignment to read, but not write
diskettes from other drives. Talk to a service type person.

There should be not problem with transporting diskettes from working
400K drives to working 800K drives.

Hurray for your uncooperative Macintosh!

You should not be `sharing' with her. What you didn't mean but said
was: "...I am unable to give her pirate copies of my applications...".

I hope that is not what you are doing.

(By the way, where did you get `your' applications? I hope they are
legitimate, or are you `sharing' with someone?)
