[comp.sys.mac] LaserJet II <--> Mac+

banton@hpirs.HP.COM (Butch Anton) (10/10/88)

I'm considering purchasing a LaserJet II for my Mac+ and was wondering if
anyone out there had any experience with this combination.

Any information, including availability of cables and drivers, is
appreciated.

Get information about the LQ grappler from Orange Micro, and make sure
you're going to be happy with a non-postscript printer. So far the only
way to upgrade the LaserJet II to postscript makes it more expensive than
buying a $4000 postscript printer in the first place. Furthermore, QMS
does this for PCs only because the card goes in a PC. (Another one goes
in the printer, I believe)

I was ecstatic with my LaserJet II while I was still using a PC, but once
I got a Mac, it was a weight around my neck. To finish a consulting job
I had to bite the bullet and get a postscript printer. While I eventually
sold the LaserJet, I lost quite a bit of money in the end.

I know it's hard to justify spending considerably more for a printer than
for your computer, but if you want nice output, that's what it amounts to.
