Has anyone modified uucico to not disconnect after all files have been transferred? We have 2 machines (a VAX 11/780 running 4.1bsd and a pdp11/70 running 2.8bsd (soon to be 2.9bsd)) that are connected by a couple of hardwired 9600 baud connections (one in each direction). Whenever anyone starts a uucp transfer we have to run through the login procedure and protocol establishment; this happens probably 10 or 15 times an hour. As long as I am dedicating a line for uucp transfers, it seems that we could see much quicker transfers if uucico was always left running - on completion of transfers (receipt of the HUP message), uucico would fork a background uuxqt task sleep for a while (e.g. 1 minute) Check for new work If new work, do it and go to slave mode Else go to slave mode (see if the other system has some new work) Has anyone done anything like this? Was it worthwhile? The version of uucp that we use on both systems is the one that came with 4.1bsd with most of the reported bug fixes installed. -- David Brown (415) 945-2199 Varian Instruments 2700 Mitchell Dr. Walnut Creek, Ca. 94598 {zehntel, amd, fortune, resonex}!varian!david
