[comp.sys.mac] comp.binaries.hypercard

sysop@stech.UUCP (Jan Harrington) (04/02/88)

As you all know, the comp.binaries.hypercard has been approved. I've asked
someone at an "official" site to create the group. As soon as it appears,
you can start sending in your stacks.

I've created a special address to which stacks are to be sent:

inhp4!husc6!amcad!stech!hypercard

or

allegra!stech!hypercard

Though the first path is longer, it costs less to send things that way,
so if you can, use it.

Something is broken at amcad, the system that feeds me news (they're
not queuing news for stech) and I haven't had anything incoming for nearly
a week now (outgoing seems fine), so I may not know when the binaries
group actually gets created. (Would somebody send me mail and let me
know if it's already been done...). At any rate, I'm trusting you all
not to send stacks until you've seen that message about the group.

Meanwhile, I'm going to try to find out why I'm not getting any
news from my buddy in the next town!

Well, according to Gene Spafford's lists that were posted on the 15th,
comp.binaries.hypercard is official.

Those of you who have stacks you'd like to share with the net, you can
send them to:

allegra!stech!hypercard

or

ihnp4!husc6!amcad!stech!hypercard

At the same time, please send a short description of the stack, any
restrictions on its distribution, etc., etc., to:

allegra!stech!sysop

or

ihnp4!husc6!amcad!stech!sysop

I've been advised, by a knowledgeable source, that I should initially be
very liberal selecting which stacks to post. Therefore, I'll be relying
on you folks to let me know what you think of the stacks to help me
come up with criteria for deciding what's "net-worthy".

I've been posting messages and stacks to comp.binaries.hypercard. Has
ANYONE received them? If you have received any postings to that group,
please send me mail. I have this terrible suspicion that nothing is
getting out.... (arg, die, choke, cough, etc., etc.)

Well, it looks like we're going to have to seek another moderator for
comp.binaries.hypercard. My access to the net is just too unreliable.
Today is the first day in TWO WEEKS that news has come through. What
that means is that I just can't get things out.

Though things may get more reliable after the first of the year (my
newsfeed may change), I hate to let things ride until then.

Is there anyone out there with a reliable connection to the net who
is willing to take on this responsibility? I can mail you all of the
stacks that are waiting to go out to get you started. (If I mail to
you through allegra, you'll get it. Unfortunately, my newsfeed is
through the husc6!amcad path, which is the one that has become highly
irregular.)

I suspect if no one volunteers, then the group will die a lingering,
painful death. Are you willing to help save a dying newsgroup? Commit
yourself to selfless service....?????
