Several people have posted recently about using UNIX systems to print postscript created on a Macintosh. I have a related problem. In our lab we have a laserwriter II that is shared by a Macintosh and a network of suns running UNIX. Switching the laserwriter between the two involves changing the setting of two delicate dip switches on the laserwriter. This is difficult to do and I'm sure that the switches will break soon. Also, Macintosh users often forget to return the switches to the default (UNIX) setting. To solve this problem, I would like to set up the Macintos to automatically create postscript files when asked to print and send the postscript created to a daemon on the suns that will spool the result along with everyone else's jobs. Is there any way to do this with background printing and multifinder? It should be possible to tell the mac to pretend that the communications line that connects to the UNIX system is just a postscript printer, but I have not figured out how to do this. Has anyone else done this? Thanks for any suggestions and help. --Walter Carlip _____________________________________________________________________________ Walter C3arlip c3ar@zaphod.uchicago.edu (the "3" is silent) c3ar%zaphod@UCHIMVS1.bitnet _____________________________________________________________________________
