[comp.sys.mac] Inteferon 2.0 and Laserwriter

changwoo@eleazar.dartmouth.edu (Chang P. Woo) (10/23/88)

I just ran Inteferon 2.0 on my hard drive, and it indicated me that my
Laserwriter 5.2 and Laserprep 5.2 may have "SNEAK" virus. According to
Inteferon, SNEAK virus turns common system files into INITs. However, I am
not too sure whether I have such virus on my system. I've had that
Laserwriter for quite a long time, and there isn't any other files that are
infected by virus!

My question is: is my Laserwriter 5.2 healthy? or did I get infected by
virus, too? Or maybe Inteferon 2.0 doesn't recognize LW 5.2 very well.

Thanks in advance,
Chang Woo

I just downloaded version 3.1 of the program from rascal, and in the
documentation it says that there was a bug in version 2.0 that causes it
to think that the LaserWriter files are infected. The bug has been fixed.

Apparently, Apple changed some resource in the printer driver stuff in
order to change the icon (to look like the newer LaserWriter II machines)
and it confused Interferon.

Your guess is right. Interferon doesn't handle LaserWriter drivers
very well. Rest assured that your driver is healthy!
