[comp.sys.mac] LaserWriter cartridge refills

rwi@naucse.UUCP (Robert Wier) (10/28/88)

The school here has now run about 3,500 copies from the
Apple Laserwriter acquired last summer, and we are looking
for replacement cartridges. Wonder if anyone would care to
pass along experiences using refills - pro or con? Always
buying new cartridges gets expensive in a hurry, but on the
other hand, I have read that the mechanics only last for
one batch, according to the manufacturers. If ok, is
there any particular outfit I might want to check out?

 Thanks in advance -

Hi,

to refill cartridges for the (old) LaserWriter is quite usual and reliable
in these days.
But what do I do with my LaserWriter II? Is there anyone who refills these?
It also will need a replacement of the old drum, so I guess that a refilling
company must be very trustworthy.

Be careful about refilling. I read an article that said the toner cartridges
for the SX engines is abrasive. Our refiller said you can refill them but
not as often. The article mentioned someone who buys new cartridges in bulk
quantities then has the refilling company dump out the new toner and put in
another kind. We're trying that too, though it's too soon to tell how it's
working.
