The subject just about says it all. A coworker is looking into getting a Mac II based desktop publishing system (Mac II, Radius 2 page display, LW IINT), and I have found a place that seems to have great prices on the equipment. There name is Kiwi Computers and I saw their advertisement in the September and October issues of MacUser. As I said, their prices seem to be very good (ie. Mac II, 1 Mbyte RAM, 40 Mbyte HD for $3995). The main concern is the reputation of the company. They only accept checks or money orders (no COD's or credit cards), and since they are in Los Angles and we are in Philadelphia, you can see the reason he is worried. Also compounding it is that those two issues were the only ones in which I've seen their advertisements (I was hoping that if they had ads for the last 6/9/12 months, they probably were legit). My coworker doesn't want to take a risk with his $10k purchase, yet at the same time really doesn't want to spend the extra $1000+ to buy the equipment from a dealer he has more faith in. Any experience with this company would be greatly appreciated. Ps. I've read the recent articles in the other comp.sys newgroups about mail order horror stories when purchasing with cash/check. If he does have to bite the bullet and make the purchase with them, one suggestion I already gave him was to order only one item now (ie. the $695 Radius video board), and make sure that it arrives in good condition and the company appears okay before ordering everything (better to rick $700 than $10000).
