In an alarming departure from my usual practise of finding out about new stuff after it is old and boring to everyone else, I have purchased a 1983 EP by the Sisters of Mercy, containing 3 great songs, side one is "temple of love (long version)" which is stunning, doomed, ominous music with lyrics for the modern walking dead (what I remember is "with a gun for a lover and a shot for the pain we run for cover in the temple of love". This is not a love song. Side two has "heartland", which I first played while watching a tape of the vaporizing people scenes in "the day after", singularly appropriate to this song about brain death in middle america; I think we still ARE in kansas, toto.... Also side two is a version of "gimme shelter" which is not a striking as the other two songs but real swell anyway; where the stones sang 'love is just a kiss away' the sisters say 'war is just a ..' in fact all the '*** is just a *** away' verses end up with war. I just love doom and gloom. I am curious about some charming things I have heard; does anyone know where/what format/what label to find The Bobs 'psycho killer' Richard Jensen(?) 'no cannibals on this culdesac' Suicidal Tendencies 'institutionalized' There is a popular song currently by 'nena' called '99 luftballons' which I think I heard a slower, melodic english version of once, which I am trying to locate for a friend; am I hallucinating? All I wanted was a pepsi, mincemeat (hao!menlo70!sytek!toms)
