I've noticed a few postings recently mentioning problems with MacWrite 5.0 on the 512Ke. This was my experience: When I had trouble spell-checking my documents with MacWrite 5.0, I called Claris, and they *promptly* sent me a new disk with the following note: "Please discard your original MacWrite 5.0 disk and begin using the enclosed disk, version 5.01, immediately. You will find that performance in using the spelling checker has been significantly improved with your 512K Enhanced and that you will be able to spell check documents without problems. "Note that this version of MacWrite, while compatible with the Macintosh Plus, SE and II systems, has been revised specifically to improve performance on your Macintosh 512K Enhanced. If you have friends who use MacWrite with another Macintosh system, the can continue to use their original version of MacWrite 5.0. Your new version of MacWrite is fully compatible with MacWrite 5.0." And so on. I was really impressed with Claris' responsiveness, and the updated program works fine. My only remaining gripe with MacWrite 5.0 would be its greatly increased size. The earlier version that I had been using was only about 70K, but MacWrite 5.0 is about 170K! I believe that much of the new functionality is lost on me. I was really only interested in the spelling checker. Considering that the MacSpell+ Desk Accessory occupies only about 30K, the extra 100K seems a little hard to justify for my own purposes.
