I just bought Symantec Utilities and was surprised that HD TuneUp, which purports to defragment a disk only performs internal defragmentation. The documentation is a little misleading (paraphrased from memory: "you will not need to backup your disk and then restore it"). However, if you want, for example, to build partitions, you need to have a large *contiguous* area, but HD TuneUp does not remove external fragmentation. So I guess I'll have to do another fullsave, then build the partitions, and then restore the disk. Unless someone knows another way to remove external defragmentation... Mark D.
