Can someone out there tell me if there exists any such software that will allow a MAC or MAC II to spool postscript printer requests to a UNIX line printer daemon. The scenerio is that we have a data products printer connected to a SUN that we use heavily in CAD. We don't want to move the laser printer onto appletalk without real good reason. Even though appletalk is ~234kbs and appears to be faster than a 19.2kbaud connection, the processor gets so busy it has to use flow control anyway. We would like to rely more on the ethernet and not have to worry about appletalk at all. Please respond to me directly as I do not read this newsgroup regularly. We are using the TOPS software/NCSA Telnet with a Kinetics fastpath box. Thanks in advance John Matthews

What you probably need is CAP from Columbia University, it will let you do one of two things: - let the Sun print to a laser printer on LocalTalk (this is really not a big deal, the data rate to a laser printer is very low imaging takes much longer, unless you are printing lots of bitmaps). - lets you run a spooler on the Sun into which you can drop Mac programs to be printed The best part is that the source is FREE. But of course you have to support yourself. Paul -- Paul Campbell ..!{unisoft|mtxinu}!taniwha!paul (415)420-8179 Taniwha Systems Design, Oakland CA "Where was George?" - Who cares - news at eleven.
