There have been some discussions on the net about the file protect bit and how to set and reset it. As far as I know, there are three programs that can set and reset this protect bit. The first one is the most popular, MacTools (bundled with Copy II Mac from Central Point Software). The second one is MacSnoop, a shareware file editting program that was posted on comp.binaries.mac a while ago ( the shareware fee is $25). The third program is another popular one (someone may disagree with me, but...), Symantec Tools, a part of Symantec Utilities (which costs about $55 from MacConnection) I remember someone posted an article saying that once the protect bit is set, one can not even move it around from folder to folder within a volume. I tried it. I used Symantec Tools to set the protect bit, but I was able to move the program (more specifically, an application) from one folder to another freely ( of course, I was not able to copy the program to another disk). I was a little puzzled about this. Is it a feature in Symantec Tools or is it a feature in System 6.0 ?
