I am in the peculiar position of having an Apple laserwriter available, but only one that is connected to a group of Symbolics machines where the laserwriter serves as the only printing device for this group. The main computing environment here is BSD Unix Vaxes and Sun workstations but none of these machines are connected in any direct way to the Symbolics network. I can ftp and telnet locally to at least make a connection to a Symbolics host, but so far I have been unable to successfully print any postscript files produced on my Mac, and saved with either the Clover-F or Clover-K options. A co-worker manually spooled some test files that I produced to a Symbolics, but I get Postscript errors out of the laserwriter instead of output. I used the latest Laserwriter drivers out of System Software Update 6.0 when I made the postscript files. Obviously I need the right kind of header file to prepend to my files to allow the foreign laserwriter to execute Mac-ish postscript. Will the Unix-specific utilities mentioned on the net be of use to me? Where can I ftp the latest and greatest versions of these magic files that allow Mac-produced postscript to be successfully translated to beautiful hardcopy? I'd love to here from anyone who actually must go through a Symbolics machine to generate output that originated on a Mac, but I'll gladly accept any advice I can get. Looking forward to hearing from you. Jim Solderitsch USENET: sdcrdcf!burdvax!jjs {sdcrdcf,bpa,psuvax1}!burdvax!jjs ARPANET: jjs@burdvax.prc.unisys.com
