[comp.sys.mac] Need Protection Info

gtww2z9z%gables.span@umigw.miami.edu (Jason Gross) (11/22/88)

Greetings, fellow Mac users. This is my first time posting on the net, so
please bear with me.

I'm in charge of maintaining the "sterility" of the hard drives on the
Macs throught my campus. The Scores virus makes its appearance about three
times a week, and I have to go and squash the critter. Now, all the Macs
with hard drives and all our startup disks have the Vaccine CDEV on them.
Trouble is that some people are either accidently, or on purpose, throwing
this file away (don't ask me how they can accidently throw something away,
they just do!). Anyway, could y'all tell me how I can either invisible-ize
the file so it run (I tried it and the new System 6.0.2 won't run invisible
inits or cdevs) or somehow lock it place using a file protect bit.

Thanks mucho in advance.

P.S. We have the application KillScores that does the jump very well, except
on the System file. For some reason, it either doesn't reset the CODE=0
jump table or it just destroys its resource map. Is there something I'm
doing wrong, or do I just need to get a newer version (I have 1.0)? Again,
thanks mucho!

I havent really tried this before, but to prevent people from throwing
away vaccine, paste the vaccine INIT into the system itself. It might
work, but no guarentees.
