[comp.sys.mac] Mac286/SoftPC ?

cs39rmw@unccvax.UUCP (richard wilson) (12/02/88)

There have been a few articles recently about the new PC boards for running
MS-DOS software on the Mac. I'm interested in finding out more about them, and
wrote several weeks ago to the manufacturer, but with no response yet. Is there
anyone out there who can give me some more info on the specifiactions and con-
figuration of these boards? How does their performance rate with the processors
found in your typical PC?
Also available for the same purpose is the SoftPC - how do these two
products stack up against each other in terms of performance? There was a
rather unhelpful review of SoftPC in a recent issue of MacUser, and they pretty
much dismissed it with "Well, who would want to run MS-DOS software, anyway?".
Is there any drawback to the software in terms of its speed and how much memory
it uses? It seemed to me that it would provide a lot cheaper alternative to
buying a pile of hardware.
I'm not very familiar with this line editor, so please excuse any weirdness
in the text. I'll be glad to post a summary if response warrants it.
    Thanks in advance.
