Does anybody out there know of the existence of a validation suite for version 7 C compilers? New Mexico Tech is in the middle of producing a v7 C compiler for DEC-20s (TOPS-20), and it would be nice if we could be reasonably sure that the language it compiled really was C. We are willing to beg (if it doesn't cost too much pride), buy (if it doesn't cost too much money), or borrow such a beast. It doesn't have to be a *real* standard validation suite or anything like that; it just has to exercise the compiler (all phases) fairly strenuously. I would think that, at the very least, any vendor selling C with its machines would have something like this. I prefer replies to me personally; replies to the net are ok, except that I will only look for them in net.lang.c (not in net.lang or net.wanted). Thanks in advance. i remain, greg -- Greg Titus ..!ucbvax!unmvax!nmtvax!greg (uucp) NM Tech Computer Center ..!cmcl2!lanl-a!nmtvax!greg (uucp) Box W209 C/S greg.nmt@rand-relay (arpa) Socorro, NM 87801 greg@nmt (CSnet) (505) 835-5735 ======================================================================

I am looking for a way to validate a recently ported C Compiler. In particular, I am looking for a validation suite of C programs similar in function to the FORTRAN validation suite distributed by the Federal COBOL Compiler Testing Service. I realize that since there is no standard for C ( yet! ), there is probably no definitive test suite either. Our goal, however, is just to shake out as many bugs as possible in order to make our UN*X (4.2 BSD) port a little smoother. Thus, a suite which tests for correctness relative to UN*X source would be sufficient. For example, Human Computing Resources Corporation (HCR) offers a test suite (for a good chunk of cash) which they have used themselves for a number of UN*X ports. I would appreciate information concerning other sources for C validation suites or any other means for validating C Compilers. Please mail me your responses. In return, I will post a compilation of all replies to this newsgroup. Thanks in advance. -- Gregory S.
