[comp.sys.mac] Security,Hard Disks, Public Site

REEVES-T@osu-20.ircc.ohio-state.edu (Dusty) (12/07/88)

I am looking for tips, software, books, anything on the subject of
software security for macs in public sites.

I am a pc lab manger and software support person at The Ohio State University

I am experienced at managing hard disk sites in the IBM/compatible world.
There I resorted to shells, tricks, slight modifications to DOS, etc.

My basic problem is how to install a set of software on the hard disks of
some mac SEs in public sites (open to all undergrad, grads, faculty, staff)
walk away, and come back in a week to find things roughly how I left them.

The sites are monitored, but noone will watch over the users shoulder.

My concern is that software will be deleted, folders rearranged and renamed,
files will be renamed, miscellaneous student files, bootleg games, etc
will be added, and so forth.

It would be nice to hamper copying, but not essential (I know about the
protection file attribute, but so do all the kids with bootleg MacTools)

In the IBM world ther are numerous shell/menu programs which help
in most of these areas.

I don't know what's out there with macs.

Help!
