We are about to install the newest system release(6.0.2) on our Macs, but after running Interferon 3.0 find that type 103 anomalies are found for Finder 6.1 and the DA Handler 6.0.1. This anomaly is not documented. Should we be concerned? phone: 609-734-3384 usmail: 755 College Rd E, Princeton, N.J. 08540 email: bmh@siemens.siemens.com Beatrice Hwong

Everyone asks this question, but no one ever answers it. I can only tell
you that we are gradually installing 6.0.2 at FileNet, and we do not
believe this anomoly is of any concern.
We've had some problems which we attribute to CMS driver software and not
to the system. Since my CMS hard drive has been reformatted using the
Apple software, I've had no problems.
If you want to run further tests, there are no problems putting some
systems on 6.0.2 and leaving others on System 5. If you're networked to
LaserWriters, leave the old printing software on the 6.0.2 systems (just
don't install the new print resources).
Although the Apple documentation says you won't be able to do background
printing, I use background printing all the time with no problems.

Apparently Anomaly 103 is really Anomaly 203 (the author forgot to renumber it). It means "CODE resource found in non-APPL file." No big deal. BTW, Interferon 3.1 was just posted to the net. Maybe this bug has been fixed. I dont know about Finder 6.1, but Interferon 3.1 finds anomaly 103 in Finder 5.3. Interferon 1.1 didnt. Another bug: at the end of its checking, having found an anomaly in the Finder, it for some reason ejects that disc and demounts it. No System disc any more! Desk accessories turn into no-ops, and when you quit, it bombs. Moral: dont use Interferon to check out the current System disk. I dont know if this happened with 1.1 as well. -- Richard Kennaway SYS, University of East Anglia, Norwich, U.K. uucp: ...mcvax!ukc!uea-sys!jrk Janet: kennaway@uk.ac.uea.sys
