A friend of mine is looking into getting a Laserwriter for his wife's at-home, small-time business. They are looking at a Laserwriter IISC because of its lower cost. My question for knowledgeable parties: Are there any major downsides to the SC for single-Mac and low-power desktop publishing needs? My memory is that the SC connects to a Mac's SCSI port and takes quickdraw calls, but still prints at high resolution. The only disadvantages I can think of are: (1) You don't get a lot of PostScript bells and whistles for graphics and text. (But vertical text and typical MacDraw- style graphics should be okay.) (2) You can't share between multiple Macs (at least not as easily as with Appletalk). (3) Printing might tie up the Mac longer (or it might not). Has anyone had any experience with a IISC? Send e-mail and I'll summarize. -- -- Kelvin Thompson {...,uunet}!cs.utexas.edu!nth!kelvin Graphics Hack kelvin%nth.uucp@cs.utexas.edu
