i've had a problem recently with bus errors:
system error 1, and i'm wondering if this is a
hardware or software problem. it occurs
frequently just with excel 1.4, sometimes when
i'm opening another document, sometimes when
i'm closing a window that has been saved, and
sometimes when i'm just resizing a window. it
doesn' seem to occur just during disk i/o.
this can happen when i'm running a macro to do
these activities, and other times when i'm doing
them manually. there doesn't seem to be much
predictability as to when this will occur: it may
occur after numerous complex operations, and at
other times after only several simple operations.
i'm using a 2 meg mac ii with a cms 60meg
internal drive. i have it occur with both syst 6.0.2
system software, with macromaker turned off,
and only apple das and cdevs installed. it also
happens with system 4.2/finder 6.0 with only
apple das and cdevs. this occurs even without
using multifinder. i also get system error 7:
privlege violation error, at times following the
same operations, and often after the system
crashes following a system error 1 when i re-boot.
i often loose the monitor after one of these
crashes: sometimes it's totally black, and other
times a get a nonsense of noise lines like a tv
with it's horiz and verticle hold messed up.
is the problem software and what i'm doing
with it, or hardware?i had my logic board
replaced the other month when i lost all power
from the cpu to the keyboard and the monitor
(and they say it wasn't the power supply.) ie., this
is a relativly new logic board. i did install new
drivers a few weeks ago on my hard disk, but
i wasn't running excel before to notice a problem.
these things haven't occured with any other
applications, yet! any ideas? any way i can
trouble shoot this? anything i should be doing with
excel to avoid this?
