[comp.sys.mac] MacroMaker vs. MPW 3.0b1, FadeToBlack vs., AutoIdle vs. SilverServer

clive@drutx.ATT.COM (Clive Steward) (12/14/88)

Just got through making my operating environment clean again after
6.0.2 upgrade, and installing MPW3.0b1 and Silver Server. All very
good things.

Observed:

1) Macromaker, as someone noted, has coexistance problems. They are
serious with MPW 3.01b -- zapped menubar after C compiles, interference
w/C compiler. Jettisoned MacroMaker, everything great. (yes, tested
with it as only INIT, it does do it all by itself.)

2) FadeToBlack also doesn't quite get along with MPW, looks funny
when it's running (switching font size, finally crashes). Jettisoned.

3) AutoIdle, Larry Rosenstein's venerable screensaver, works fine,
and has the added feature of showing you the front program's icon.
Only troulbe noted is that it has to load after Silver Server, or get
a crash on bootup. So renamed it to ZAutoIdle.

MPW3 is simply wonderful. Projector, better compiler, much added, and
runs great in background, as right now, with supplied 6.1a2 Multifinder
having great layer setaside feature. Can see SADE will be handy.

Ditto SilverServer. Just using the disk partition now, but whole
package looks quite smooth.

No disclaimers necessary.
