[comp.sys.mac] Apples tester does not test.

wezel@bio.vu.nl (Jos C. van Wezel) (12/15/88)

Some time ago one of our Mac II's started bombing at unexpected moments,
mostly Err ID25, sometimes ID1. This happened shortly after each restart.
After checks for viruses we concluded, after more considerations, a
possible memory error. We then started to swap SIMM boards and found one
which defenitely causes the trouble.

The strange thing however is that Apples tester does not report a
possible faulty memory.

This tester is a little board you use to redirect the SCSI signals back
into the port you plugged it in. With it there is software to test various
Mac functions like video,SCSI port,floppy-drive and memory. I must do some
serious testing on the memory, because this specific test takes about
15 minutes (for 5M RAM), and forces a reboot.

Could someone explain me why the memory test does not reveal the faulty
board, or does anyone know a PD memory tester to check the board again.
