I recently purchased a new Jasmine DirectDrive 45 and so far have been very pleased with it, except for the noise it generates. Upon startup it sounds like a jet engine warming up, and during normal operation it produces a very noticeable whine. This being my first hard drive, I accepted the noise as normal, but recently a friend told me his year- old Jasmine hardly emits a peep. My DirectDrive 45 has a Rodime mechanism, if that's any help. So do I exchange it now while I'm in the 'trial' period, or is my drive behaving normally. Could the noise be an indication of some abnormal wear? Please respond via e-mail, since I don't suppose this is of general interest. Thanks, Tom Quinn -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thomas F. My Jasmine DirectDrive 70 also makes the "jet" noise on startup, but after that it settles down and isn't too noisy. But then you add the noise from my Kensington System Saver and the buzz I have from the transformer for my modem and I have to stick my headphones on so I can think! I guess this won't help you much, but... Blake "Hey, where's MY fancy footer?" Sobiloff
