[comp.sys.mac] CDC Wren V Hard Disk <--> Mac II??

bdw@centro.soar.cs.cmu.edu (Blake Ward) (12/13/88)

I'm trying to connect a CDC Wren V SCSI (Model 94181) 600 megabyte hard disk
to a Mac II and I'm wondering if anyone else has already done this. I've
got it connected to my Mac II but haven't been able to successfully format it
yet. I've been trying to use SF&I but obviously haven't gotten the
parameters right. If anyone has already done this and can lend me the
appropriate resource file for SF&I or some other formatting program, I
would really appreciate it. If no one has already done this, then any
advice any of you might be able to lend would be much appreciated, including
guesses for the various parameters. Thanks, "bdw@centro.soar.cs.cmu.edu"

The Wren V works fine with a Mac II.

There are some mode select pages that have options that should be set
for optimal performance ( like, enable the cache ). Also, you can tell
the drive to remap bad blocks when it finds them rather than having to
handle that in the driver or formatter. This option is setable in one
of the mode select pages.

I don't know anything about SF&I ( I use my own formatter and driver ),
but if you can't get it to set these bits, you could always write a
program specifically for this purpose, or use something like SCSI Tool
to issue the mode select commands you need.

Where to get "SCSI Tool"? Would someone email it to me? Thanks.
Happy Hanukkah and/or Christmas and/or New Year to everyone out there!

SCSI Tool is a commercial program. The company that sells it often
has an ad in MacTutor. I believe they are named Arborworks.
