Promised to mail this for a Mac-user that do not have access to UUCP/News: "Equipment: Macintosh Plus, 40MB HD Mirror 40/40 with build-in 40MB back-up tape drive. According to manufacturer, now defunct, the unit consists of a NEC HD and a 3M tape back-up. Back-up and restoration software Mirror version 2.1. Harddisk was not partitioned into volumes. Documents on disc were mainly Microsoft Word 3.01b. Problem: After harddisk crash and reformatting, version 2.1 will only restore the uppermost folders on the tape onto disk. When lower-hierarchy documents are specified for restoration, tape drive gives status report after several minutes stating that files could not be copied. If attempts of restoring files continue longer than one hour, resoration status report will state "File header error occured". Version 2.2 does not recognize the tape drive, stating that no cassette has been inserted. Version 2.3 will look for volumes and cannot find any. When restoration is attempted anyway, the tape drive will stop after 18 secs. Status report indicates that restoration has been completed, but nothing has been copied to disk. Has anybody else had similar problems and is aware of a solution?"
