[comp.sys.mac] Mail order woes from Microtech

james@tut.cis.ohio-state.edu (James) (12/22/88)

Well, I never thought it would happen to me but it did!

I ordered the Nova 40 hard disk from Microtech Friday. The salesperson
said that it would be shipped that day and that I would get it Wed or
Thursday.

It did not arrive Wed and being a suspecious person, I called
them back to get the UPS shipment number.
The salesperson first asked what that was and then said that she did not
have that information and was not available.
I asked to speak to the shipping department and she asked me to wait.
Then she said that she would call me back after asking her supervisor.

When I did not get a call back in 1 hour like she promised, I called
the sales manager who said he would call me back.
To make a long story short, they of course did not ship it but offered
to send it express at their expense (but admitted no fault).
By this time, I was not a happy customer and cancelled the order.

A company claiming a 5 year warranty as the main selling point
has to work harder to keep their image clean.
I refuse to put up with this kind of practice as normal
(maybe I am spoiled from dealing with MacConnection).
Although this could be an individual problem with the salesperson.

Well, I am still looking for a hard disk.
I may still go for the Nova, but am leaning toward the drive from Maxcess.
If you own one, let me know how you like 'em (especially if heat/power supply
stress is a problem mounting inside the SE with 2 floppies).
