I'm have a Mac II with 5MB of RAM and two monitors. I would like to able to open more windows and more files than the Mac will currently allow. Is there a way to change the limits set on the number of files and windows that can be open at one time. If changes with ResEdit are the answer I would be willing to make the necessary modifications to my System. Any help would be appreciated. Hal Hansen Hewlett-Packard

Is there a way to change the limits set The maximum number of open files at once is determined by a number in the boot blocks. To edit this, you need somthing like FEdit, which has a command for editing boot blocks. When you run under MultiFinder, this number is multiplied by some factor (I think 4). The number of open windows is controlled by each application. If you mean the number of open Finder windows, that value is stored in the LAYO resource in the Finder itself. If you have recent version of ResEdit, then when you open the LAYO resource you should see a dialog box that decodes the format of the resource and makes it easy to change it.
