[comp.sys.mac] re Disabling internal disk

rees@bio73.unsw.oz (Rees Griffiths) (12/29/88)

  The incantation you require to avoid mounting the internal HD is

  Insert the startup disk before the power is on
  or before clicking in the restart dialogue box.
Then
  Hold down the option, command, shift and delete keys until the
  smiling mac appears.

  Facing east on one leg is optional.

========================
Speaking of disabling internal disks. I have come across a few Mac SE's
that I'd enjoy doing that to the internal floppy. Seems every time
I have put one of my diskettes from my 2 Pluses into an SE, the SE says
its not readable, and when put back into my Plus, it has been trashed
and cannot even be formatted in the Plus. I think this is kind of LAME, Apple.
So what's the story?

I don't know what the problem is, but it sure sounds like the SE floppy is
bad (perhaps the head is magnetized, or something). Seems to me I would stop
putting floppies into this drive, and take it to an Apple dealer to get it
serviced. But perhaps I'm crazy.
