[net.wanted] Toronto Hospital Query

<heiby@wnuxa.UUCP> (10/25/84)

A friend of my father's would very much like any information on a
hospital in or near Toronto which is known for its work with Hernias.
The friend seems to believe that one exists, but does not know its
name. Name, address, and phone number would be appreciated. Thanks.

You probably want:
	Shouldice Surgery,
	7750 Bayview Ave.,
	Thornhill, Ontario
	416-889-1125
(Thornhill is indistinguishable from Toronto)
My Toronto phone book is a bit stale, but the number should still be
correct.

They specialize in herniology. My father went there, and was quite
happy with the place. He was a bit annoyed at the reluctance of most
family doctors to admit that the place even exists...

On page 33 of the September 1979 issue of the National Lampoon
Magazine is a cartoon strip article entitled "No Laughing Matter, or,
One Man's Hernia-- A True Life Adventure" It is about a man who
gets a hernia and is advised by his co-worker that his window-washer
said you should go to Canada to have the operation. His doctor doesn't
know anything about it, but his nurse refers him to Manny the druggist
who gives him the address of a ''Shouldice Hospital, Toronto Canada''.
Manny also gives him some advice such as ''Don't sit at the Jewish
table-- they tell jokes and you have to hold on to your incision''.
Anyway, he goes, gets fixed up, jokes around with the patients and
staff and in general has a good experience.

What better reference could you have?
