[comp.sys.mac] Make Your Own DIP SIMMs??

stevel@eleazar.dartmouth.edu (Steve Ligett) (01/03/89)

I was wondering if anyone else would be interested in do-it-yourself
DIP simms. Although there have been sporadic reports that the simm
shortage is ending, I haven't found that to be true around here.
However, I believe that it is easy to buy 1 meg dips. The PC board
isn't hard to layout. Is anyone interested? Please reply by mail.

The price of a 1 Meg x 8 100ns SIMM at Fry's Electronics in Sunnyvale
has been dropping steadily for about the last 2 months. The price as
of yesterday is $299. Faster and/or wider SIMMs are surprisingly more
expensive. I have heard reports of SIMMs available for $250. As far
as I know, Fry's SIMMs are surface mounted. The DRAM shortage must be
easing at least a little.
