Before Christmas I posted a request for information about software which would run in the background on a Mac SE and snarf stuff off bbs, UNIX mail, netnews and so on at dead of night. Well, I got one useful reply but, due to five-star incompetence on my part, I lost all trace of it. I don't even remember where it came from. If the kind sender could please either resend, or simply post the information, I -- and the several people who asked to be mailed a summary -- should be grateful. Craven apologies for my screw-up. Since making the posting, I've been delving into Red Ryder. It looks as if it can kind of do what I want provided that the remote machine does not mind bundling stuff up in preparation for Kermit transfers, and provided that I remember to leave Red running in the top window under Multifinder before turning in (waits until a specified time don't seem to work unless Red is in the top window when the time is reached). If I get around to writing a procedure to do what I want (conceivably, I could use Hypertalk instead of RR) -- or if I find anything applicable on a bbs -- I'll be sure to post details. -- Dominic Dunlop domo@sphinx.co.uk domo@riddle.uucp
