[comp.sys.mac] Need help with printers

walt@sixwbn.UUCP (Walt Novinger) (01/06/89)

Forgive me if this topic has been discussed here before -- I'm a
newcomer to comp.sys.mac, and am still considering purchasing a Mac.

I currently own two printers: a Brother M-1509 Epson-compatible matrix
printer with both serial and parallel interfaces, and an Okidata
Laserline 6 HP LJ-II-compatible laser printer with 512K memory. If I
purchase a Mac SE, will I be able to utilize either/both of these
printers? I plan to use Word, Excel, and some database program.

I am under the impression that some form of printer driver software
will be required (similar, I believe to a DOS TSR program). Is this
correct? What is the name of the program(s)? Where can I find the
program(s)?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

I noticed this ad in the February issue of MacUser (p 319), for a printer
driver. It is supposed to work with DeskJet, LaserJet or LaserJet
compatible printers. They say they use outline font technology so you
can create various fonts, sizes and styles.

In addition to this ad, there is Orange Micro's Grappler. They aren't
listed in the advertisers, so I can't give you a phone number, but they
are located in Anaheim CA and have been good about answering questions
for me (years ago).
