If you have a Rodime hard disk you should check to see if you need the upgrade described in this message. I was having infrequent (1 or 2 a month) disk crashes (a long whir and then a click, red light on, no more disk accesses possible). I called Rodime's customer support and was informed of an EPROM upgrade that has solved the problem. I called one afternoon and received the EPROM and latest formatting software the next morning, GOOD SERVICE! Now if only they had told me about the upgrade before I had problems. Anyway, here is how to tell if you have the bad EPROM. If your PC board assembly numberis 22024-1, -2, -3, -4, or -5 or the number on your EPROM (it has a sticker on it reading "programmed by RODIME) is 22021-1, -2 or -3. You probably need the upgrade. The new EPROM that I received is numbered 22021-4. The upgrade was fast and free. The problem had to do with the drives ability to dynamically deallocate defective sectors. A data-dependent timing error was causing the list of defective sectors to fill with false flaws that were not really media defects. After extensive testing I have determined that the new EPROM solved the problem. Rodime's technical support number is (407)997-0774 or 0775 from 8:30AM to 5:30 PM Monday through Friday. They can also be reached through AppleLink at D1734. Best of luck!
