[comp.sys.mac] Help for Beginninger Programmer

david@randvax.UUCP (David Shlapak) (01/08/89)

----------

    Folkses---

After using my Mac for four years I'm starting to teach myself to
program it (using LSP 2.0). I have the first five IM volumes, which have
been tremendously helpful...to a point. However, I find the lack of
examples therein extremely frustrating.

Are there any good sources of "How-to" tips available (eg, how to
re-draw a multiple-window screen after a move or re-size, etc.)? Would
"Macintosh Revealed" be a good adjunct to IM?

Help would be appreciated. If there's any interest out there, I'd be
glad to summarize responses for the net.

    Cheers.

Check out back issues of MacTutor (or the "Best of MacTutor") volumes.

If you are a beginning programmer, get the Transkel package (version 2
is the latest.) It is explicitly public domain so it is free and
you won't have to worry about someone else owning the rights to
anything you produce. Transkel is available for both C and Pascal
(Lightspeed) from sumex-2060.stanford.edu (anonymous ftp. Do the following:
        ftp sumex-2060.stanford.edu
        login: anonymous
        password: david@rondo
        cd <info-mac>
        dir trans*
        mget fname1 fname2 ...
        quit
)

Since some of us do not have access to anonymous ftp will someone
post a copy of Transkel to binaries; or mail me a copy at
Mike_G_Newman@cup.portal.com?
