I am trying to use the HyperCard phone stack and my Hayes modem (Practical Peripherals 1200SA Mini) to dial numbers for voice communication. I have not been successful in making it dial the complete number. No matter what I do it seems to only get out the first few digits of the number and then goes offline (hangs up). I have tried going into the phone stack script to modify the commands sent to the modem and nothing seems to work. I have tried pauses, slowing down the dial rate and numerous other things. Nothing works! Also, I have issued the "dial witm modem" command directly from the HyperCard message window and get the same result. The modem dials correctly if I issue the commands from the communication software packages of Works or Versaterm. Is there any one out there that has had this problem? Is it possible the BAUD rate from the Mac to the Modem is wrong? If so how do I change it? I have been told by a few individuals the Baud rate between the Mac and the RS232 port on the modem does not matter. Is this true? I cannot find any reference in the Mac manuals or other books about Hypercard that even talks about setting up the parameters of the modem port. Any help would be appreciated. Howard Kaplan

The problem I have with dialing for voice communication from Hypercard is that after correctly dialing the number, and after the person on the other end picks up the phone, either my Mac II or my modem (Everex 2400 baud) tries to send some data over the phone line, making it very difficult to talk. Any suggestions? David M.
