Seemingly out of the blue, my SE wouldn't boot with MultiFinder as startup. (Finder v6.0 Sys v4.2) Using the Finder only worked fine. When trying to start with MultiFinder as startup, the menubar (with Aplle icon and appropriate menu entries displayed) simply flashed on and off. Very strange... Moving random things (such as inits) in and out of the System Folder seemed to cure the problem. I then rebuilt the desktop (*under MultiFinder*), configured the System Folder with exactly the same contents as it had prior to this incident, and everything has been fine since. Simply rebuilding the desktop with the Finder was not sufficient. I have to believe there's a reasonable explanation for this behavior. Does anybody know.... 1) What would have caused this bahavior to occur?? 2) What is a flashing menu when booting MultiFinder symptomatic of?? 3) Why would it make a difference if I rebuilt the desktop with the Finder versus MultiFinder?? Thanks for your collective time...
