[comp.sys.mac] Oracle for the Mac has arrived!

alexis@ccnysci.UUCP (Alexis Rosen) (01/17/89)

I just got my copy two days ago. It is MASSIVE. Nine disks. Included in the
package are the engine (sits in the system heap, eats up 650K!), the
HyperCard interface, the C interface, the network interface, and lots of
other stuff. I haven't really had a chance to go over it in detail, but it
looks very professionally done. In particular, I get a good feeling when the
first thing I see when I open a product is a small booklet describing known
bugs and limitations. You tend to worry a bit less about UNknown bugs...

On the other hand, I wonder why they couldn't shove the engine above bufPtr
and leave the System Heap alone? (or just put a pointer to the engine in the
Sys heap...)

On the whole, it will take months of work for anyone to become sufficiently
expert with this product to judge it well.

At least they hit their revised ship date, which is more than can be said
about most companies these days...
