Argh! Yesterday, I came home to find that my Mac's screen was dark and the power supply was making an ominous clicking sound. I brought it in for servicing and just heard that the analog board needed to be replaced (includes power supply). Cost?? $125 parts + $40 labor. Order time?? Uh, two days to, uh, two weeks... I bought my mac (an original Fat Mac) almost exactly four years ago. I haven't had any problems with it until now. (Although I did have the power supply on my Dataframe 20XP die on me.) Is this a common problem? Are the repair people giving me a straight deal? Thanks in advance for any adive. Going cold turkey in Ohio... -=- Marc Sarrel sarrel@cis.ohio-state.edu | "Language is a virus from Department of Computer and Information Science | outer space. Marc- Of course, there is no way of knowing if you Mac is suffering from the same problem that afflicted mine, but the symptoms are the same. What went out was the flyback transformer. I once saw a photo of a guy standing next to a huge pile of them, all of which he had removed from sick Macs at his company. You can get them electronics suppliers; MCM Electronics is one company that carries them. If I had my catalog, I could tell you the price (and make sure I have the name right) but it is just a few bucks. Heck, just touching up the solder joints fixed the thing so it worked for a while. Good luck in getting your Mac up and running! --Lyle D. Gunderson (BREEK@BYUVAX)
